spinny-scraper — 2captcha Scraper API edition (fourth engine)
=================================================================
A fourth way to run this scraper. Unlike playwright_scraper.py /
puppeteer_scraper.py / selenium_scraper.py, this one manages **no browser and
no CDP session of its own**: it POSTs a URL to 2captcha's separate **Scraper
API** (https://scraper.2captcha.com — a different product from the Scraping
Browser API the other three reach through --cdp-endpoint), gets HTML back over
plain HTTPS, and feeds it to this project's product_parser.
Why you would want it: no Chromium to install, no CDP plumbing, runs from a
tiny container or a lambda.
WHAT THIS SITE NEEDS — READ THIS FIRST
--------------------------------------
Spinny is the WORST fit in this family for a browserless path, and this
client is here for completeness rather than as a recommendation. Expect it
to return **no cars at all**, and that is the client working correctly.
The reason is structural rather than fixable here, and it is the same fact
the browser engines are built around: **Spinny's first response is a shell.**
Measured 2026-09-11 — `domcontentloaded` on /used-cars-in-delhi-ncr/s/ at
1.1 s with ZERO cars in the DOM, the first batch of 22 arriving at 4.7 s from
an api.spinny.com XHR, and the full 302 only after ten scroll rounds. A
single HTTP fetch captures the shell: 1.6 to 2 MB of navigation, filter rail
and footer, with the grid container present and empty.
So this path cannot see a listing at all, by construction — not a fraction of
one, none of it. Measured 2026-09-11, `tasks/sync` routed through a Scraping
Browser session against /used-cars-in-delhi-ncr/s/:
upstream status 200
HTML 1,873,849 bytes
cars parsed 0
cost $0.0005
exit code 4
Against 62 from the same URL through `playwright_scraper.py`. A sibling site
in this family server-renders about five tiles into that first response,
which at least demonstrates the path; here there is nothing to demonstrate it
with.
It is kept for three reasons. It costs nothing to keep. `--cdp-url` routes it
through a Scraping Browser session, so the paid path is exercised and stays
honest. And a browserless fetch is genuinely the right tool on other sites in
this family, where the grid is server-rendered — this client is family core,
and family core that only exists in four repos and runs in three is how the
untested-inheritance defects happen: code copied between repos and
never run in this one.
If you are reading this because your run came back with zero rows: use
`playwright_scraper.py`, which scrolls.
Usage
-----
# routed through a Scraping Browser API session, which is what makes it
# reach the site at all
python3 scraper_api_client.py \
--url "https://www.spinny.com/used-cars-in-delhi-ncr/s/" \
--cdp-url "ws://user:pass@cb.2captcha.com:9222" --timeout 90
# the key comes from $TWOCAPTCHA_KEY and the endpoint from
# $SPINNY_CDP_ENDPOINT, so neither needs to be typed — a secret in
# argv is readable by anything that can run `ps`
Requires: pip install -r requirements.txt
(no playwright/selenium/pyppeteer needed for this engine)

ran, so a run driven through a credentialed CDP endpoint put that
endpoint's username and password into the log, and a key passed as a
query parameter would go the same way.

the API's own metadata and its shape is not ours to pin, so an allowlist
would silently drop the cost and timing figures this is logged FOR the
first time the API adds a field.

This docstring used to say the opposite -- that the API wanted it as a

2026-09-23 against /tasks/sync: the string form is refused with HTTP
422 ("params.waitFor must be an object") and the call is STILL BILLED
($0.0005); the same request with an object answers HTTP 200. So every
--wait-* flag was a paid exit 5.
Default (no flag): wait for the DOM. On a challenge-protected page
that resolves instantly against the challenge page itself — which is
exactly the trap documented in this module's docstring, so
