| smoke | Lightweight export/header check (not the full verify suite) |
| ownership | Who allocates and who must free memory crossing the C ABI |
| shared library | zbr.dll / libzbr.so / libzbr.dylib built from zig/ |
| freestanding | Zig target without full OS libc assumptions |
| sidecar | Separate process next to the host (JSON or binary protocol) |
| hot path | Performance-critical code moved into Zig |
| L3 binding | Binding with parity tests meeting BINDING_STANDARD |
| Tier A / B / C | Verify tiers — A on host, B via Docker/macOS, C docs-focused |
| stub | Educational integration shell — not a production engine |
| toolchain | Compiler / SDK set needed for a binding |
| upstream | External project this handbook studies or links to |
| allocator | Zig memory allocator used inside the library |
| parity tests | Shared assertions every L3 binding must pass (≥8) |
