The Problem:
The Lich's Unhinge Chronology system grants two options, Haste and Slow, which state to "Choose a character".
- This verbiage, read literally, includes yourself.
- This verbiage permits using Haste on a hostile character. Tactically there's no reason to do this, but RAW it remains permitted.
Additional comments
- Many systems in the core book and Long Rim content explicitly state "Choose an allied character" (e.g. Mimic Mesh), "Choose a hostile character or willing allied character" (e.g. Stasis Generator), or "Choose yourself or another character" (Didymos-NHP). Or else, says "Choose a character - if they are hostile ... if they are allied ..." (Ferrous Lash). To my knowledge, Unhinge Chronology is the only one that states "Choose a character" without any qualifications.
- Valid Targets on page 65 reads "Unless otherwise specified, characters can't target themselves"; however, it's pretty easy to miss that sentence. Without that sentence, "Choose a character" does not explicitly forbid yourself, nor does it have the explicit qualifiers of "if they're allied"/"if they're hostile".
The Solution:
Amend Lich's Unhinge Chronology to state: "Choose an allied or hostile character"
The Location:
Long Rim pg 56
