<head>William Smith</head>
<p><lb/>Of Albermarle County, Virginia, before Braddock's defeat, served
<lb/>against the Indians as a captain in a campaign, under the com=
<lb/>=mand of George Washington, who was then a colonel. In the American
<lb/>revolutionary war he fought in several battles. He was distinguished
<lb/>for his bravery and devotion to his country. During many of the last
<lb/>years of his life, he read his bible without spectacles. On the 12th of Febu=
<lb/>=ary 1823, he died aged ninty six years.</p>
