Unable to get the home page text rendered?

I'm a beginner who is recently starting to build a website using Hugo. When I was trying to set up a homepage, I do see the title of the homepage loaded in the build product, but no text content being rendered at all. I'm sure I put some text in the source file content/en/_index.md and content/zh/_index.md, but none of the text content even get rendered at all.
After some searching and comparing some starter templates, I'm still unable to find a way out, so I have no choice but to make a new post here.

Hi, this isn't supported by this theme right now, but it might be considered at a later date.

I ended up adding {{ partial "article/article" . }} to layouts/home.html and injecting the following script to get the desired result:

<script>document.body.classList.add("article-page")</script>

Obviously this is a very ugly approach. There should be a better way to do this, and I do see someone else actually achieve this (probably also has some of the theme files got overwritten), but the source code of the website that actually achieve this is not provided.

Also, the desired result of my homepage would be placing the content from _index.md right at the top, then followed by a list of the most recent posts, which are placed directly under the content directory. I tried overwritting the params.mainSections config to be an empty string, but the homepage (and also the RSS feed) still doesn't load any posts. This feature also doesn't seem to be an out-of-the-box feature, but I do also see someone else actually achieve this.

By putting:

layout: 'single'

in _index.md's frontmatter will make the homepage use article page's layout.

Also, the desired result of my homepage would be placing the content from _index.md right at the top, then followed by a list of the most recent posts, which are placed directly under the content directory.

This is not supported, nor do I have a plan for it. You will have to customise the template yourself.

Found out that you can add the following code snippet at the top of layouts/home.html to make the content of _index.md display properly:

{{ define "body-class" }}
  article-page
{{ end }}

The only thing left is content at the root directory, and i18n overwriting problems (which is not related to the homepage anyway though).

article-page class will be added automatically with layout: single.
