Happy to QA the findings in the slides. @ijd5004, if you've already scoped out part of this task, then I can try to complement your efforts. Will just be getting my bearings for a while.

Looks like a good presentation in the making.

I'm guessing the audience will be a decision maker who has practical questions like:

• How can we maximize volunteer turnout?
• Are weather observations a good use of volunteer time?
• How can we use new external data to analyze our own data?

I think the slides should answer these types of questions directly, with every statistic or visual supporting at least one valuable insight. Once we have the key findings, we should state them at the beginning-- maybe after the current slide 2. Concise, action-oriented language.

If I was in the audience, I would like to know how the slides connect to the two objectives listed in the README.

1. What relationship, if any, exists between geographic, socioeconomic, or climatic correlates features and CBC participation and effort for the Christmas birdcounter?
   [...]
2. Should the Audubon society continue to collect weather data during the Christmas Bird Count?

Do we still plan to cover objective 1? It sounds like we are focused mostly on objective 2.

Regarding objective 2, is there a reason we would advise the Audubon Society to continue collecting weather data if comprehensive NOAA data sources exist? Naively I'd guess that NOAA data are more reliable, more comprehensive, and cleaner than volunteer recordings.

If the two data sources are similar, then it doesn't seem like the volunteer recordings add much value. If they are different, then I would consider the NOAA data as more authoritative-- unless we think the volunteer data provide a more localized view.

In case we don't advise continued volunteer weather observations, can we recommend how to leverage NOAA data as a replacement?

So Audubon knows we are focusing more on objective 2: Are weather observations a good use of volunteer time? The Audubon society has the business question within their organization on if they should continue to collect weather data and/or if they use past weather data for analysis. As you point out , NOAA data is available and considered reliable. Part of what they are thinking is their data can be used to supplient weather data that was not available in the past or not available now because of sparse coverage of NOAA. So our analysis and flow will likely have two parts: 1. Do we trust Volunteer data 2. If yes -- we trust volunteer data, here is the trends you could see from those volunteer submitted data points (they are most excited about snow -- which is NOT often measured by NOAA)
