How to add trees along both sides of the river in staticmaps.nc

Hi, I would like to add trees along both sides of a river in my model. I am working with staticmaps.nc and I’m not sure which variable values need to be changed or updated to achieve this.

Are there any additional steps I need to follow (e.g., re-running hydromt)?

Any guidance or examples would be very helpful.

A change in land cover (vegetation) of grid cells will result in a change of model parameters that are related to vegetation. If you did setup a wflow model with hydrom_wflow you are probably making use of cyclic leaf_area_index data? This data needs to change, including parameters depending on leaf_area_index like kext, sl and swood. Other parameters are for example rootingdepth and n (Manning's roughness for overland flow).

You could also check the mapping of model parameters to land cover in hydromt_wflow, that may help. Additionally, work has been done on a tool to convert land cover changes to model parameters. I think this is work in progress, you could ask about the status in hydromt_wflow.

You probably know this, as rivers are modeled in 1D, which grid cells to change depends on the spatial coverage of a river.

For LAI, I went on to this website :"https://lpdaac.usgs.gov/products/mcd15a3hv006/" according to the data catalog file but on website it says the data has been deprecated and no longer available.

Can you please guide on where to get lai and how can I use it?

This version is deprecated, you should use now: https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/data/catalog/lpcloud-mod15a2h-061. You can access the data through this link, another option is using GEE, for example: https://developers.google.com/earth-engine/datasets/catalog/MODIS_061_MOD15A2H. As a preprocessing step as part of hydromt_wflow, this data is converted to monthly cyclic data, including masking of clouds, for masking of clouds in GEE see for example this blog.
