Phases Approach

JL shares an overview of where are we in the phases approach and when can people start to get involved and how:

• Migrated the phases into a project management plan in GH kanban to be able to set up indisiual dats and come to these community meetings and report where we are
• Look into the Phase 3, where actual action item happens . looking for volunteers to become managers. These managers set up the entire working groups with the participants.
• Only participate? Then look into phase 5 (recruitment)
• Each task on phases are GH issues that contain more details (time commitment, expectations, etc)
  This doesn’t stop from having conversations on topics that you see there is a big group to move forward within the foundation. If there is community interest, there is definitely

Website and Contributions

• AJ: There has been interest from people to work on a baseline website for devrel foundation, so we're trying to see how can we build a website in the open. So to to give you an example, the TODO group, have the website hosted under apache license in the TODO Group website repo.

• AJ: It is built using the Hugo static site generator and hosted on Netlify and uses the Dot-Org Theme for Hugo as a base and then has its own customisations. I feel it's really nice as it allows the community to create content, also for people that doesn't have a lot of code experience, they can add markdowns files to build up content and become contirbutors in an open way. Is also nice because we can also set up folders for different translations in different languages (e.g japanese, chinese, spanish, korean, french, german) and have location contributors helping on that.

• Tabs: Happy to contribute to the site (mine is organised similarly, though I use Svelte as a static site generator); I also do branding and design if that's required. Will be good to create a discord channel

Steering Committe Elections and Volunteer Group

• Pl: We are only 5 volunteers at the moment. I think the charter currently say 7 people, but we're only 5 at the moment.

• JL: The reason why we we stopped at 5 and and didn't integrate the towards the seven is because we were starting to build out the community for for the foundation.

SP: What is the process of that 2 additional folks to get in before even defining the steering committee elections for the next years to come?

• PL: We haven't really discussed it in a lot of detail. In terms of, you know, is it a voting process that brings in the next two or is it a skills matrix and we identify people or is it a combination? Maybe Is probably a combination of the two and maybe also geographic diversity, skill set, experience, etc

SP: So there will be some process with the mix and match of or maybe scale based or, but there'll be some process where people would be able to identify themselves that if they are interested in this particular thing, whether they can tell their skill set or whatever that is, right? Or is it based on the survey that was done, maybe partly from that?

• AJ: Yes, looking into survey responses in one place. I think like the next step will be because a few people in the survey express interest to help building policies and processes, to follow up via emails to reach out and see if they are interested to join as SC volunteers.
• AJ: And also, folks in the SC have been working on defining workstreams / skill sets needed to help support the community initiatives better based on the input from the survey and these calls. For instance, skills in website development, skill sets in communications and design, skill sets in project management and community building and skill sets in open source governance models. And they have been trying to put like a skill matrix so people can understand where are the skills strengths right now from this SC volunteer ngroup and where are the weaknesses and determine if you, for instance, can offer help to strength those weaknesses and propose to become a steering committee member. And also I also want to highlight the the geographical diversity is an important matter.

PL: There will be kind of four ways to get involved:

• The steering Committee, which is, you know, forming from this foundation and facilitating and supporting the the working groups to get in place.

• The working groups themselves will have leaders which will define the charters.

• Those working groups will then have regular participants within them

• And then fourthly. being part of the community and getting involved where / when you can.

• PL: Sometimes you may be not part of a working group, but you can still be part of the community and provide feedback beyond the steering committee. I think. I think we've covered all that, so.

SP: It's really the kind of similar process that CNCF follows. For example, I'm the tax sustainability lead. So we have a working group, we have a chair, we have leads and then we have sub projects within the working groups and we have sub leads for that particular working group.

SP: There are a lot of things, especially from the developer relations success metrics point of view that can itself be a whole working group. Then there are different set of working groups or content creation, different set of working group, what you do in this particular field. Then there are different domains and areas with respect to job specific things, developer relations and sorry, developer advocates, developer evangelist, all three, how they fit in. So I definitely think it's not big now, but there'll be a lot of working groups within that that will be defining a lot more strategies, practical examples, use cases, success metrics, etcetera. And even the tooling, maybe we we end up building our own different tool for the success metrics that other folks or other people in the industry can use.

Update on Survey and Relation With Challenges.md

Jl: the survey, which is our first task within the phased approach is to be able to get the feedback externally from anyone that wants to be involved. It's going to close at the end of the day tomorrow. So if you are interested in in helping to get additional community members on or if you have additional, additional folks that you think should fill out the survey, express their interest, then please do post that out to, to your channels or bring people in.

Open the Forum for Questions

AJ: after the friday call, I chat with one of the participants on a separate channel and shared how they devrel ptogram operates and the structure inside the org. This person asked “where can I serve these to see if there is interest from the community to serve how other structures of their programs?”. I think the community discussions are are really great starting point to document this to later bring them to this community calls. And also if you feel this is useful for all of you, people can do like present like 5 minutes or presentations during the next community calls on topics because that is also going to inspire the next conversations that could potentialy shape the working groups’s goals / scopes.

AJ: I would encourage folks to post their conversation on the GitHub discussion. So from there we can say “hey, we can allocate that time in the next community calls to have you presenting what you really want to tell your community” Maybe for for next from next call?
