Pandas (stands for Python Data Analysis) is an open-source software library designed for data manipulation and analysis.
•pandas: This name is derived for the term "panel data" which is econometrics terms of data sets.
•Revolves around two primary Data structures: Series (1D) and DataFrame (2D)
•Built on top of NumPy, efficiently manages large datasets, offering tools for data cleaning, transformation, and analysis.
•Tools for working with time series data, including date range generation and frequency conversion. For example, we can convert date or time columns into pandas’ datetime type using pd.to_datetime(), or specify parse_dates=True during CSV loading.
•Seamlessly integrates with other Python libraries like NumPy, Matplotlib, and scikit-learn.
•Provides methods like .dropna() and .fillna() to handle missing values seamlessly
•Pandas ia a software library written for the python programming language for data manipulation and analysis .
Difference between NumPy and Pandas
• A NumPy array requires homogeneous data while a pandas dataframe can have different data type (float , int , string , datetime , etc.)
• Pandas has a simpler interface for operations like file loading , plotting , selection , , jioning , groupby , which come very handl in data processing applications.
• Pandas dataframe (with column names) make it very easy to keep track of data .
• Pandas is used when data is in tabular format , whereas NumPy id used for numeric array based data manipulation.
Data Structure in Pandas
A data structure is a way of storing and organizing data in a computer so that it can be accessed and worked with in an appropriate way. It is a collection of data values and operations that can
be applied to that data. It enables efficient storage , retrieval and modification of the data . Pnadas provides and deals with the following three data structures:
•Series : It is a one- dimensional structure storing elements of homogeneous (same data type ) mutable (which can be modified ) data.
•DataFrames: It is a two-dimensional data structure storing heterogeneous (multiple data type ) mutable data.
•Panel : iT is a three - dimensional way of storing items.
