New Addon #284

Description

@sitaro

Hi everyone!

I'm excited to share my new Home Assistant add-on: Barcode Buddy Python - a modern, lightweight alternative for Grocy barcode scanning.

What is it?

A Python-based barcode scanner with direct Grocy integration for Home Assistant. It provides a simple way to scan items in/out of your Grocy inventory using USB barcode scanners or manual entry.

Key Features

✅ USB Scanner Support (plug & play)
✅ Direct Grocy Integration
✅ Modern, clean Web UI
✅ Manual barcode entry
✅ Real-time updates
✅ Lightweight Python implementation

Why another Barcode Buddy?

While the original Barcode Buddy is great, I wanted something that:

  • Runs natively in Home Assistant without Docker complexity
  • Has a simpler, more maintainable codebase
  • Focuses on core scanning functionality
  • Works out-of-the-box with USB scanners

Installation

  1. Add the repository to Home Assistant:
    Settings → Add-ons → Add-on Store (⋮) → Repositories
   https://github.com/sitaro/barcodebuddy-python
  1. Install "Barcode Buddy Python"
  2. Configure your Grocy credentials
  3. Start the add-on

Happy scanning!
