Feature description

Usually, https://developers.google.com/fonts/docs/material_icons#sizing is interpreted to mean that those preset sizes should be used when they correspond to an identical text size. However, because the iconography is vectoral, that's generally replaced by mere correspondence to the text size. Although obviously avatars are not vectors, they are actually treated as if they are, by being resized to arbitrary sizes.

Why do you want this feature?

I have no need for them to take 2 lines of text rather than one. I would be able to see many more contact entries were they to correspond to the text size. it would additionally be significantly more aesthetically pleasant, if that's of interest.

Take note of how Google Contacts does this, especially in Compact view.

I agree with the OP.
Basically in addition to be able to change the font size, there should be an option to change views to compact, relaxed etc.

Only changing the font size doesn't reduce the card size/margins/avatar size as OP mentioned. Looks like a lot of space is wasted which can be used to accommodate more details or more entries.

It should be configurable AT LEAST to on/off avatars, as they take massive space. In my case it is 9 threads visible on 1 screen in Fossify Messanger vs 12 threads visible in another sms app... All with the same font size.

The avatar size has been reduced in #558, and the list is now more compact.

Closing this because the Font size preference should strictly apply to text elements only, and list items in apps should respect https://m3.material.io/components/lists/specs. I'm rather against in-app preferences for such things, including Font size, because the system already has these accessibility options, and there's also FossifyOrg/General-Discussion#118.

@naveensingh, thanks! Insofar as the avatar size is a multiple of the font size, determined by the amount of text beside it, that's what I wanted. In your implementation, the avatar size is 2em for two lines of text. That's better. Like before, they are a little smaller, though.
