No, I don't think so. Previous versions work fine as well.

This happens to me too, the launcher just keeps on loading the releases...

I keep having random issues at times, where sometimes I can update, others not. Some restarts on the launcher made it work, at other times I had to delete a backup or change settings for making them.
But right now, it just never finishes fetching and doesn't allow me to update. It seemed to get worse as the save game backup file size increased? At 300 MB (non compressed) it just doesn't budge, although I can read the new Change Log fine.

Going to try to remove the backup and see the results after a restart of the 1.78 version.

Maybe? I don't really think so though, because when I update frequently, that almost always is, at much, one update per day, and more usually I just update like 1 time a week, so I find it hard to believe I made too many requests in a short while, and I remember the problem persisted over several days, at least a full week in which I had to update manually until I removed the backup.

Oh, it could have been that, I suppose. It has been quite a while since then, but I could conceivable have done that without really noticing.

it seems to me that the issue is in the link that is like https://api.github.com/repos/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/releases and doesn't seem to work unlike https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/releases which works somehow

the first link is the api link so it's correct and the second link is the browser link that cannot be used to make automatic request. But feel free to use it to get the release manually, that will always just work
