👋 Welcome!
Hey, I'm Gabriel (Gyfu). I'm a musician and software engineer building Lyra as both a tool I actually need and a way to get better at desktop app development.
What is Lyra?
Lyra is a desktop app for songwriters who want version control for their lyrics without the complexity of Git. You write in sections (verse, chorus, bridge), save snapshots of your work at any point, and compare versions side by side with character-level diffs. Every song is a single
.lyrfile you can move around, back up, or sync however you like.Built with Tauri 2, Rust, React, and SQLite.
What this space is for
This is a place to talk about Lyra, songwriting workflows, and the technical side of building desktop apps. Feel free to:
Where things stand
Lyra is in early beta (
v0.2.0). The Rust backend handles.lyrfile I/O, snapshots, diffing, and a SQLite index cache. The React frontend has the editor, timeline, diff view, and a first-launch tour. There's plenty left to build and polish, and I'm doing most of it as a learning exercise, so the pace is steady but not fast.If something breaks or feels off, I'd love to hear about it. And if you're a songwriter who's ever lost a good lyric to a bad save, you're exactly who this is for.
