One of the use cases, especially with fractures of the tibia, is a T-shaped fixation. Often, this involves a "bar to bar" connector. One possibility is to consider a threaded 8mm rod along with spacers to create this "t"
Advantages:
- It avoids the bar-to-bar connector
- 3D printed bar-to-bar connectors are bulky at the moment. This reduces space needed
Disadvantages:
- There's significantly less control than when doing a bar-to-bar connector as the angle must remain perpendicular.
Two proposals for the spacer would be a hollow metal spacer with an ID of 8.5mm; or a printed spacer, which would allow more flexibility in sizes
