Problem Background
When playing audiobooks, almost every title includes fixed-length intro segments (music, opening remarks, sponsor ads) and outro segments (music, closing remarks) at the start and end of each chapter. The current player has no way to automatically skip these segments, forcing users to manually fast-forward every single time. This severely breaks listening immersion and is especially inconvenient in hands-free scenarios like driving or doing housework.
This problem is particularly acute for series books, where the exact same intro and outro repeat dozens or even hundreds of times across all chapters, making repeated manual skipping an extremely frustrating experience.
Feature Requirements
Add an intro/outro auto-skip feature with the following capabilities:
- Allow customizing the number of seconds to skip at the beginning (intro) and end (outro) of each chapter separately
- Core requirement: Save configurations independently per book — intro/outro lengths vary drastically between different titles, so a global setting cannot work universally
- User-friendly configuration options:
- Quick preset buttons for 5s / 10s / 15s / 30s
- One-click "Set from current position" button (the most practical calibration method, no need to count seconds manually)
- Support for manual input of any number of seconds
- A master toggle to enable/disable the feature at any time
- Automatic execution: Skip intro automatically when playback starts, and skip outro automatically when reaching the end of a chapter
- Edge case optimization: Do NOT trigger auto-skip if the user manually seeks back into the intro/outro region
Limitations of Existing Alternatives
- Manual progress bar dragging: Cumbersome and inaccurate
- System-level fast-forward buttons: Only support fixed 10/30s jumps, cannot adapt to different intro/outro lengths
- Third-party tools: Lack native integration and break playback continuity
Additional Notes
This is a highly requested feature among audiobook listeners. It would complement the persistent end-of-chapter timer feature perfectly, creating a completely hands-free listening experience for audiobooks.
