Welfare Secretary

Manifesto

Hi everyone :))
I am Aakriti, currently a 1st year Computer Science student and I think I would make a great Welfare Secretary because life in CS can feel full of unexpected exceptions… and I want to be the try catch that keeps us all supported.

But beyond the jokes, I genuinely care about the people a lot. University is exciting but it can also be overwhelming, isolating, and really hard sometimes. I want Hacksoc to be a place where you feel safe, included, and heard, even on your toughest days

As your Welfare Sec, I will make sure nobody feels alone especially when things get hard.

If elected, I promise to:

  1. Make everyone feel welcome

  • No gatekeeping, no “you should already know this.” Whether you’re a coding wizard or still struggling with Git, you belong here and your feelings matter. Hacksoc is a place where nobody should feels like an outsider.
  1. Host “touch grass” events

  • Yes, we will step away from our laptops occasionally. Because taking breaks, connecting with people, and enjoying the world outside of code is important for your wellbeing.
  1. Be the welfare person who's actually approachable

  • Struggling with your mental health? Feeling homesick? Overwhelmed by coursework? Going through something personal? I will listen without judgment, signpost you to the right university support services, and make sure you never feel like you have to handle things alone.
  1. Survive deadline season together

  • Expect welfare check-ins, chill events, and emotional support when coursework hits. And reminders that failing to compile does not mean failing at life

CS will always have bugs, exceptions, and things that mysteriously stop working. But your wellbeing isn't something that should ever be left unhandled.

Fun Fact About Me

  • I actually really enjoyed C in sem 1… yes, even pointers. I know that might be controversial
  • I am a self hosting nerd, which basically means I take care of my servers and I promise to take care of my “users” (thats you! ) with the same reliability, privacy and care.
