Form elements #70

Description

There aren't many form elements in the design system at the moment, and those that exist are mostly part of something else. We've got a few projects coming up where we're going to be designing forms for search-and-filter and other fairly standard interactions - setting values, choosing things, inputting information.

We're going to need these quite quickly, and I suspect that we're not going to have time or budget to do a full round of design and implementation. I'm therefore wondering if there is an off-the-shelf approach that we can take, and how that would interact with the design system.

Visually, I want something that is broadly consistent with the design system - something that doesn't look out of place on the page. The design system is very pick-and-mix already and most apps have some non-DS components anyway, so I think the bar is "doesn't look wrong" rather than being particularly cohesive.

Technically, I think we're looking for something that we can largely copy-paste bits into the design system; I don't think we want to try and run multiple systems in parallel any more than we currently have to. I use UIKit for a personal project and it seems to do the job, although it does have some JS that might be tricker to maintain. I gather there are pure CSS frameworks (I've seen Sakura and pico.css) that might be a good starting point.

Or, maybe this is something that we can just knock out as quickly as adopting something if the design brief is just "good enough".

@codemacabre - what do you think?
