(compat) broken in Thunderbird 60+

I downloaded the zip file, ran build and got messagefaces-1.3.xpi.

Then I installed it with Thunderbird and it appears to be corrupted.

My Thunderbird version is 60.0 on macOS Mojave.

Getting the same error 4 years later with messagefaces1_3_1.xpi (the last version available for download), using Thunderbird 102.2.2

I get the same error with Thunderbird Supernova 115.3.

MessageFaces makes extensive use of legacy XUL overlays, so it looks like it has been broken since Thunderbird 68, which deprecated legacy extensions, and Thunderbird 78, which removed support for legacy extensions and requires conversion to MailExtensions.

I would suggest either using MessageFaces in SeaMonkey or waiting until I can figure out how to port this to the new MailExtension api.

I have to admit that I have never written a Web/MailExtension, so this will be a learning process for me.

If anyone here is familiar with a similar Thunderbird extension that can

• add a custom image column to the div #threadPane
• add a new <img> element to the html:header #messageHeader
• support Thunderbird 115+ (Supernova)

, then please let me know.

Due to Supernova changes in Thunderbird, it is no longer possible to manipulate columns from an add-on, even with full privileges. There are proposed changes to re-enable the feature. Until those changes are merged and released, the add-on can't be fixed.
