From d7e3f0464782c7b670bee20c0e2219342a9cba5f Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Kunal Siyag Date: Thu, 22 Oct 2026 20:17:51 +0530 Subject: [PATCH] fix(fp): the chat answers in an empty city; mayors argue, and say they are busy when no reply comes In a city nobody lives in yet the chat stayed silent: rounds only ran with residents, and a player line had nobody to answer it. Now the rival mayors answer the player there (the mayor the line names first, else the player's district's, then a rival) and argue among themselves once a minute while live replies work. A player line nobody can answer, offline or when the live call fails, gets a status card: "The mayors are busy fighting right now. Chat later." The live-down card no longer promises neighbours who do not exist. Face to face, a reply still out after 8 s of feed time now gets the resident's busy line instead of a made-up offline answer, and the late reply still shows when it comes. Busy lines are not turns, quotes or mood changes. Up to two talk calls may be out at once, and the free- text line keeps what was typed while a reply is pending. GmiClient retries a call once at temperature 1 when the model refuses 0.7 with an HTTP 400 (Kimi-K3 takes only 1) and keeps 1 for that model for the session. Every failed live call prints one scrubbed "GMI_FAIL role/agent on model: error" line (never the prompt), so a run from the editor shows why replies fell back. fp_chat_live_test (new) covers the empty city, the mayors' answers and rounds, the busy card offline and on failure, and the slow face-to-face reply; fp_ops_test covers the temperature fallback and the request body. C-chat, ARCHITECTURE, README, the GMI outage runbook and the API docs describe it. A player line nobody can answer (offline, or the call failed) gets a `status` card at once: "The mayors are busy fighting right now. Chat later." Nothing is made up. +- **Slow talk replies.** At most `TALK_PARALLEL` (2) talk calls are out at once. A reply still out after 8 s of feed time gets the resident's busy line (`talk_busy`, source `busy`: "Sorry, I can't think straight with the mayors fighting like this. Talk later?"), and the late reply replaces it when it comes, unless the player has said something since. A failed live call with nothing in the LRU gets the busy line too. A busy line is not a turn, not a quote (`talk_replied`), moves no mood and leaves no memory. While a reply is out the free-text line keeps what the player typed instead of dropping it. ## LLM budget (D12, enforced in code and tested) | Trigger | Calls | Limits | |---|---|---| -| Ambient chatter | 1 batched call every **60 s real time** while unpaused, 4–8 lines | max_tokens 600, timeout 30 s, 1 in flight, skipped if a call is still in flight | +| Ambient chatter | 1 batched call every **60 s real time** while unpaused, 4–8 lines (the mayors' round while nobody lives in the city: live only, 3-5 lines) | max_tokens 600, timeout 30 s, 1 in flight, skipped if a call is still in flight | | Player chat message | **1** call per message | coalesce within 10 s; at most 6 per minute | -| Face-to-face line | **1** call per player line | max_tokens 300, timeout 20 s, 1 in flight, at most 20 lines per conversation | +| Face-to-face line | **1** call per player line | max_tokens 300, timeout 20 s, at most 2 in flight (a slow reply never blocks the next line), at most 20 lines per conversation | | "Ask someone here" | 1 `inspect_tile` per `card_action` | at most 1 per 20 s of `now_ms` | - **Day gate.** No call ever blocks the sim day gate or changes `minds.pending()`. @@ -282,6 +284,8 @@ The feed exposes `pump(dt_seconds)` for tests, so time is simulated deterministi - **Replies and typing.** One question asked twice is answered twice. In a city nobody lives in yet: a player line gets one call with the mayors' prompt, the district's mayor answers first and a rival next, both replying to the player's line, and a line from outside the call is dropped; a line naming a mayor gets that mayor first; the mayors argue once a minute (5 ± 1 rounds in 5 minutes, none while paused); a failed call gets the busy card (two in a row also "Live replies are slow right now."); offline the busy card comes with no call and no rounds. Then the city grows, and with the fake holding the talk call: the card waits, a line typed meanwhile stays in the box without a second call, after 8 s the resident's busy line shows (no quote, no mood change), and the late live reply still shows and is the one quote. A third line while 2 calls are out gets the busy line without a call. + `tools/tests/fp_chat_context_test.gd`, token `FP_CHAT_CONTEXT_TEST: PASS`, covers the parts that need no chat feature: a turn and a council ruling in words (failed orders left out), `mayor_named` cases (Rosa alone is a resident, "Hana" is not Han), a forced reply shown once even when it repeats a row, `hold_low` letting only alert-level cards through, and the typing line's wording.
