Legal Information for PasteAI

Terms of Service

Usage Agreement

By using PasteAI, you agree to these terms. The application processes text through AI services to improve writing.

Service Limitations

  • The service is provided "as is" without warranties
  • Service availability depends on third-party API availability
  • We reserve the right to modify or discontinue services

User Responsibilities

  • Users must comply with OpenAI's terms of service when using their API
  • Users are responsible for their API keys and usage costs
  • Users must not use the service for illegal or harmful purposes

Privacy Policy

Data Collection

PasteAI collects and processes:

  • Clipboard content (only when explicitly triggered by user)
  • Email address (for PasteAI account users)
  • API keys (stored locally)

Data Processing

  • Text is processed through OpenAI's API or local Ollama instance
  • No permanent storage of processed text
  • API keys are stored locally
  • Clipboard history is stored locally

Data Protection

  • We implement security measures to protect your data
  • We do not sell or share your personal information
  • You can request deletion of your PasteAI account data
  • No account is required to use the application with local processing

GDPR Compliance (EU Users)

For users in the European Union, we comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Legal Basis for Processing: We process your data based on your consent and for the performance of our service contract with you.
  • Data Subject Rights: You have the right to:
    • Access your personal data
    • Rectify inaccurate personal data
    • Erase your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
    • Restrict processing of your data
    • Data portability
    • Object to processing
    • Not be subject to automated decision-making

  • Supervisory Authority: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

Data Retention Policy

  • API keys are stored only for as long as your account is active
  • Clipboard history is stored locally and can be cleared at any time
  • We do not retain processed text after the completion of the requested operation
  • Account information is retained until you request deletion

Cookie Policy

PasteAI uses essential cookies and similar technologies to ensure the proper functioning of our application. We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising purposes. The cookies we use are:

  • Session cookies: To maintain your session state
  • Preference cookies: To remember your settings and preferences

You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may affect the functionality of the application.

Third-Party Services

OpenAI API

Ollama (Local LLM)

  • Local processing option available through Ollama
  • No data sent to external services when using Ollama
  • Subject to Ollama's License

Dependencies and Licenses

PasteAI uses the following major components:

  • Tauri Framework (MIT License)
  • OpenAI Node.js Client (MIT License)
  • Various Tauri plugins (MIT License)

Full dependency licenses can be found in the node_modules directory.

International Data Transfers

If you're using the OpenAI API option, your data may be transferred to servers outside the EU. These transfers are protected by:

  • Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)
  • OpenAI's compliance with data protection regulations
