Design: default to monthly or annual checkout?

Trade-off:

• Monthly default — lowest friction for first-time sub. Standard SaaS pattern.
• Annual default — higher LTV at signup, harder to cancel mid-year. Discord Nitro defaults to monthly; Plex / 1Password default to annual.

Lean: monthly default + a "save 16% with annual" prominently shown next to it. Mirrors what the VIP card already advertises.

Decision needed before: Phase 3 checkout integration ships.
