pynio not available from conda-forge

Attempted to install PyNIO into a conda virtual environment per the instructions listed on GitHub and was given the following error:

PackagesNotFoundError: The following packages are not available from current channels:

  - pynio

Current channels:

  - https://conda.anaconda.org/conda-forge

To search for alternate channels that may provide the conda package you're
looking for, navigate to

    https://anaconda.org

and use the search bar at the top of the page.

Yeah, this repo should really better indicate the project status at this point.

The conda-forge feedstock was archived back in 2024 so there haven't been updates since then including for newer versions of Python and operating systems. I suspect this is what you're running into (i.e. an unsupported Python version or platform).

Is there some functionality in particular that you're looking for? We may be able to point you in the right direction regarding a replacement. Whether or not you're using Xarray, their overview of various IO backends is not a bad starting place.
