Support for NetHack 5.0.0 possible?

Given that NetHack 5.0.0 is a huge overhaul, it probably won't be straightforward just changing the binaries.
Is it feasible to add a compatibility layer to accept the new version?

Motivation

I want to create RL models for the latest nethack version.

Pitch

Drop-in the new version, select that you are using a new version.
