Photone

PAR Meters are expensive($300-$500), so I'm using the next best thing, a $5 app. Photone

While its not on par with an actual quantum meter, Shane from Migro thinks its acceptable for the hobbyist. Migro Review

My Lights

  • The Timber 3vl, in the 2x4

    • Timber has since re-branded to HighGrove and discontinued this light
  • The Spider Farmer SF-1000, in the 2x2

Grow Environment

Trying to take VPD into consideration these days. Pulse has some great information on VPD here

Stage RH Temp
Veg 40-60% 70-85F
Flower 40-50% 65-80F

Water

  • I don't check regularly, but its usually around 6.4 out of the tap.
  • In the 2x4 I have 2 carrots and 3 feet of drip tape in one 30 gal and in the other I have 3 carrots with 4 drippers each.
    • I'll likely be replacing the drippers with drip tape, eventually.

Moisture Meter

Condition Measure (Mbar)
Saturated, very moist to moist 10-40
Living Soil Target Zone 50-80
Moist to moderately moist 50-120
Dry to severely desiccated, irrigate range 120-190
Dry - Irrigation Urgently Necessary 200-300

BuildASoil recently started selling Blumats and recommend aiming for 50-80 in living Soil video link

Feeding

Loosely following the "BuildaSoil Way" with some BIO-AG products mixed in.

Low Stress Training

Trellis

I have a re-usable AC Infinity trellis in the 2x4.

As the plants grow I tucked the tops under the net to encourage side growth to grow to create an even canopy about 12" under the light.

Defoliation

I've been terrified to defoliate more than a few leaves at a time in flower. I know I need to be better about it, especially in these smaller tents where space is limited. These are some videos I've seen that have helped me.

  • Rasta Jeff suggests taking off any leaves that have a purple petioles(stems). He thinks if the petioles has gone purple its been around long enough and is safe to remove.
  • Guru mentions that older leaves are less efficient at photosynthesis than newer/younger growth.

Drying

  • 60/60/16

    • 60 Degrees
    • 60 % RH
    • 16 Days
  • Buds should feel "crispy" and stems should snap when bent

Curring

  • If you nail the dry, you won't need to burp at all
  • Burp jars a few times daily during the first week
  • Once environment settles you only need to burp every few days

Post Processing

Dry Sift

  • Dry sifting is best done in cool temps, 60f or lower
  • Most glands are 75-125 microns in diameter.
