What you're about to build

A test PCB with a simple microcontroller (e.g., RP2040), LEDs, an I2C device, and a couple ADC channels. This hardware will be used to validate the backplane connector standard, mounting hardware, structural design, as well as serve as a simple, replicable board that can be used in workshops to demonstrate KiCad, reading datasheets, and interacting with the project through GitHub.

Which requirement(s) does this satisfy?

N/A

Pre-work checklist

  • Relevant subsystem information doc section (mission context, electrical requirements, part tradeoffs) exists and covers this work
  • (Hardware) Relevant part(s) selected with a documented tradeoff, or reusing an already-approved part
  • (Hardware) Derating requirements for any new part identified before layout begins
  • (Hardware) If this touches envelope, mass, power architecture, RBF, deployment switches, or RF: CDS-compliance checklist reviewed
  • (Firmware) Interface sketched out and classified into Question/Command/Loop per the event-driven refactor guideline
  • (Firmware) Proposed event UID(s) checked against the existing UID registry for collisions
  • Known open questions or risks are listed below

Open questions / risks

  • Is the RP2040 suitable or should we use a different MCU?
  • Which I2C device should we use?
  • What should we sample with the ADC?
