How to use :pre-hook correctly? #75

I'd like to use this package in a sorta similar way to kakoune. i.e. I'd like to be able to press w, move forward one word, and then be presented with a prompt for the 2nd, 3rd ... nth word to select, or alternatively I can just keep mashing w as I normally would.

I thought simply using :pre-hook with the same command would work but I'm not having any luck.

  (evilem-make-motion my-forward-word #'evil-forward-word-begin :pre-hook #'evil-forward-word-begin)

What am I doing wrong?
