This is because to do this properly, a shader would have to be implemented (like summit and dreamscape). But even when we can decompile the actual ingame shaders to look at the code, it takes a big amount of effort to translate it to WebGL. The fact that we got summit and dreamscape working is already wild enough.

I have no plans to make this happen myself but if anyone is brave enough to try, I'll help however I can.

What about a limited functionality that just makes it work for portraits?

it would take the same amount of effort really. Shaders just use relative positions.
