100% agreed. I think it is simply just a bit of lowering of convenience by not having an opt-in override to let me do challenge subsets in multiset without having to remember to re-enable them. Dislike this change to make it so you have to enable challenge subsets as a lot of the time I dont personally even look at the site beyond checking what hash I need for achievements - And I know that is how most people interact with the site too. |

To summarize a discussion I had in discord: The reason we don't want to automatically opt you in to every Challenge set is that Challenge sets have special rules, and by opting in you are acknowledging those special rules. Too many players were accidentally getting an achievement from a subset with special requirements, then writing tickets when other achievements in the subset didn't unlock because they didn't understand the special requirements. By making the user choose to play sets with special requirements, it puts the onus on the user to understand that there are special requirements. To address this, devs were starting to change Bonus sets to Specialty sets, forcing the user to apply a patch to be able to earn the achievements. Challenge sets provide a happy medium where the player doesn't have to patch their game, but they still have to take some action to enable the subset. Additionally, a single game may have multiple Challenge sets, and you probably don't want to be playing all of them at once. Imagine trying to do a low-level, solo run, without equipping any weapons/armor. Individually, those are reasonable challenges, but together, it's just folly. Finally, many challenge sets display challenge icons or timers related to their challenges. For players not attempting those challenges, the additional UI elements are just annoying. |

Challenge subsets are a clean solution to a design need, but I, as a player (and I'm assuming many others), don't care about my completion percentage or achievement spam. I want to opt into as many subsets as possible all the time, and while it's fine for set devs to decide whether their sets play nicely with the base game experience for the average player, I already know I want it opt in for myself regardless.
Please add a user-scoped setting to opt into all challenge sets by default (off by default of course). This is a huge convenience upgrade since I can already go through every subset on a game's page when I start playing, and keep an eye on released sets to opt into any challenge ones - but this is a massive waste of time compared to just opting in by default. Thanks for your consideration.
