Get error when npm run start with BAS: Failed to register backend for /sap. Check configuration in yaml file.

I am using a BTP Trial account and following the "Develop SAPUI5 Applications" learning journey.

After cloning the sample project from this repository:

I ran the npm run start command in the terminal and received the following error:
Failed to register backend for /sap. Check configuration in yaml file

I'm using the BTP Free Tier and having the same issue.

Should we create the destination in BTP?

But I guess it requires cloud connecter as well?

I guess we need to have the Learning Hub subscription to be able to access the practice system.
