Surface mounted number block and number block GUI

Description

I think it would be nice to have something like a surface-mounted number block in The Modpack.
I also think it would be nice to instead of painting a certain type of number block, have a GUI that allows the player to
select the place value of each number block.

Advantages

The main reason is to make creations that use number blocks as displays cleaner. The paint job on the number blocks doesn't always look the best, and a surface number block allows 1-block walls with number blocks to be much nicer and sharper.
A GUI for number blocks that allows the user to set the place value and a surface-mounted number block would be the perfect solution to the problems above.

Existing solutions

There is the 4-digit display from MJM Mod (I think) but it only has 4 digits and that is a limiting factor.
For the one-block walls, that is solvable but I'd say a better solution for the future would be a surface-mount number block.

Disadvantages

I don't really know how The Modpack works internally, so I don't know of any performance issues or disadvantages.
I think the only disadvantage is adding complication to the number block.

I think if you connect the colored Number Block to another uncolored Number Block, it takes the colored number block's value.

I agree using colors for everything is not idea. For most parts there's no real way around this due to how the game internally works. With the reintroduction of custom GUIs it is indeed possible make Number Blocks select the digit based on a setting in a GUI, but I'm not sure if this is ideal. All Number Blocks would then have information show up in the HUD when you look at them. Finding mistakes where you forgot to change the selected digit would also be harder.

A surface mounted Number Block would be nice in some situations yes. I'm not sure if we will add it though, as it indeed already exists in other mod(s). You can divide the output by powers of 10000 and output it to another 4-digit display to achieve 8, 12, etc, digit displays.

Ah, that makes sense. Thank you for your interest and help! I understand why the GUI may not be the best option and overall the paint method works better in most cases.
Though I still believe the surface-mount number block would be a good addition, as only having the option of displaying surface-mount numbers by multiples of 4 is pretty annoying in some cases. It would also be nice just to have the surface-mount number block in The Modpack in the first place without having other mods because it fits The Modpack nicely and reduces the number of mods a world will have, which I believe is a good thing for beginners. If I was a newcomer to Scrap Mechanic and wanted a surface-mount number block (which I believe many would want) I'd have no idea where to find it.
