Data Points Dissapear

I have been using the app to track when i smoke since 2023, which has resulted in over 12k data points. The only data i actually care about is the timestamp, so all the data points are the same default value apart from that.

For a pretty long time now the app will forget a previously logged data point. It dissapears entirely from the list. It happens roughly 1/10 times, and has gotten bad enough that I've had to use Macrodroid to log when i open / close the app so i can go back and enter the missing data points.

The issue was present on my previous phone (LG G8S ThinQ) and persists on my current phone (Google Pixel 10a)

Oh dear, i'm sorry to hear that. I don't think I've heard of this bug before. Thank you for reporting. Let me first confirm a couple of things:

1. You said you have a default value, so just to confirm, you are not entering a value/label into the dialog? Are you just tapping the blue + on the tracker card or are you adding these via the track all fab for example?
2. Does the time since last tracked on the tracker card update when you track the data point? It should say "0 minutes ago" on the card right after you track.
3. Is the data point missing in the history screen (the one you see when you tap on the tracker card) or just on a particular graph?
4. Where are you tracking from? In the app or using a widget?

Thanks for the quick response

1. I tap the blue + on the tracker
2. The time since last updates on both the tracker card, and on the Time Since Last Smoke graph
3. The data point dissapears from the history and the graphs. I normally notice to check my external logs because the value of the Time Since Since Last Smoke graph feels off.
4. I track from the app by pressing the blue + button on the tracker

Thanks for the extra detail. Based on what you’ve described, this is quite puzzling. If the tracker card and graph update immediately after tapping +, that strongly suggests the data point was inserted successfully at the time.

I’ve had a look through the relevant code and I don’t see any background cleanup/sync process that should later delete individual data points. Room/SQLite also shouldn’t “forget” an inserted row after the insert has returned.

A couple of questions that might help narrow it down:

1. Do you use Track & Graph’s built-in backup/restore or auto-backup feature?
2. Have you ever restored from a Track & Graph backup, Android cloud/device backup, phone transfer tool, or anything similar? Could there be something overwriting your database?
3. When you notice a missing point, is it always one of the most recent points, or can older historical points disappear too?
4. Do you ever use the history screen multi-select tools, move/copy data points, or bulk update tools for this tracker?

One thing that would help a lot is an export captured shortly after adding a point, and then another export after you notice that same point has disappeared. However, I want to be very clear: a Track & Graph database backup/export may contain everything you’ve ever tracked in the app, including timestamps, labels, notes, tracker names, graphs, and other personal data. Sorry for the late answer. I used to use to auto backup, but i no longer do (the issue persisted regardless).

I do have another clue, it seems to only happen when i leave the app running in the background.
