Install Guide

This guide covers the five v1.0 release files:

  • controlleremu.xex on the Xbox 360
  • controlleremu.ini on the Xbox 360
  • 360controller.apk on Android
  • x360-controller-windows.exe on Windows
  • 360cli.exe on Windows

You can use Android, the Windows app, or the Windows command-line host. You do not need to run more than one host.

Before You Start

You need:

  • RGH/JTAG Xbox 360
  • Dashboard 2.0.17559.0
  • DashLaunch plugin setup
  • FTP or another file manager for copying files to Hdd:\
  • Android phone or Windows PC on the same local network as the console
  • Default port 3000

If your console cannot load DashLaunch plugins, x360 Controller will not work.

Download Files

From the v1.0 GitHub Releases page, download:

File Install Location
controlleremu.xex Xbox 360 Hdd:\Plugins\
controlleremu.ini Edit on PC first, then Xbox 360 Hdd:\Plugins\
360controller.apk Android device
x360-controller-windows.exe Windows PC
360cli.exe Windows PC

Edit controlleremu.ini before copying it to the Xbox 360. The release INI has documentation example entries for Android 192.0.2.2 and Windows 192.0.2.1. Replace them with the actual IP address for the host device you will run.

Install The Xbox 360 Plugin

  1. Create this folder on the console if it does not exist:

    Hdd:\Plugins\

  2. Copy controlleremu.xex to:

    Hdd:\Plugins\controlleremu.xex

  3. Edit the release controlleremu.ini on your PC before copying it.

    For Android host mode:

    [Network]
    ip=<phone-ip-shown-in-app>
    port=3000
    host1=android|<phone-ip-shown-in-app>|3000
    host2=windows|<windows-pc-local-ip>|3000
    order=host1,host2

    For Windows host mode:

    [Network]
    ip=<windows-pc-local-ip>
    port=3000
    host1=android|<phone-ip-shown-in-app>|3000
    host2=windows|<windows-pc-local-ip>|3000
    order=host1,host2

    The Android app shows the phone IP after you start hosting. The Windows app shows the PC IP in its PC status chip.

  4. Copy the edited INI to:

    Hdd:\Plugins\controlleremu.ini

  5. Add the plugin in DashLaunch. Example:

    [Plugins]
    plugin2 = Hdd:\Plugins\controlleremu.xex

    Your existing plugin slots may differ. Keep your current plugins in their working order and place controlleremu.xex in an open slot.

  6. Save launch.ini.

  7. Reboot the console.

If the console has a problem after changing plugins, hold RB while powering on to bypass DashLaunch plugins, then fix launch.ini.

Use The Android App

  1. Copy 360controller.apk to your Android device.
  2. Install the APK. If Android blocks the install, allow installs from the file manager or browser you used.
  3. Open x360 Controller.
  4. Start the host in the app.
  5. Read the IP address shown in the app.
  6. Put that IP address in controlleremu.ini.
  7. Keep port 3000 unless you changed it in both the app and INI.
  8. Reboot the console after updating the INI.

Android mode is standalone. The Windows app does not need to run.

Use The Windows App

  1. Copy x360-controller-windows.exe to a folder on your Windows PC.
  2. Run the EXE.
  3. Allow Windows Firewall access when prompted.
  4. Find the PC's local IPv4 address in the app's PC status chip.
  5. Put that address in controlleremu.ini.
  6. Keep port 3000 unless you changed it in both the app and INI.
  7. Reboot the console after updating the INI.

The Windows app can use keyboard input and supported PC controllers.

Use The Windows CLI

  1. Copy 360cli.exe to a folder on your Windows PC.

  2. Open Command Prompt or PowerShell in that folder.

  3. Run:

    .\360cli.exe --help
    .\360cli.exe --show-keys

  4. Allow Windows Firewall access when prompted.

  5. Put the PC's local IPv4 address in controlleremu.ini.

  6. Keep port 3000 unless you changed it in both the CLI and INI.

  7. Reboot the console after updating the INI.

The CLI uses the same host protocol as the Windows app and can use keyboard input and supported PC controllers.

More examples are in Windows CLI Guide.

Network Setup

The host device and console must be on the same local network. Good signs:

  • the console has a valid network connection
  • the Android app or Windows app is running before you test input
  • controlleremu.ini uses the phone IP shown by the Android app or the PC IP shown by the Windows app
  • the port in controlleremu.ini matches the app port, normally 3000

Avoid guest Wi-Fi networks that block device-to-device traffic.

Updating

When updating to a newer release:

  1. Stop the Android or Windows host app.
  2. Replace Hdd:\Plugins\controlleremu.xex on the console.
  3. Keep or update controlleremu.ini if your host IP changed.
  4. Reboot the console.
  5. Install the new APK or run the new Windows EXE.
