We have added your mod to our next modpack and are currently testing said pack on a server. We have had many crashes today. Can provide more logs if needed.

Hi, thanks for the crash report. The stack trace matches the corrupt-NBT-in-region-cache bug class that was the subject of v1.6.3:

java.io.UTFDataFormatException: malformed input around byte N
    ... NbtIo.readCompressed
    -> RegionColumnStore.loadRegion (1.6.2)
    -> CacheStorage.mutate -> CacheManager.onChunkLoad

In 1.6.2, loadRegion swallowed the IOException but still cached a half-loaded RegionData and marked it clean — the next flush then silently overwrote the file with the partial content, propagating the corruption. Fixed by #42:

• corrupt files are now quarantined as region_X_Z.nbt.corrupt-{ts} and the region is rebuilt from scratch;
• writes go through FileChannel.force(true) (fsync) before ATOMIC_MOVE, which prevents this kind of corruption in the first place even on kill -9 / power loss mid-write;
• weighing fixed so the cache no longer grows unbounded.

Please update to v1.6.3+ (latest is v1.6.6 with extra fixes from #43–#45). Closing as resolved — reopen if you can still reproduce it on the new version.

Correction: the fix is in master (PRs #42 / #43 / #44 / #45) but the release on Modrinth and CurseForge has not been cut yet. Re-opening — will close once v1.6.6 ships and you can confirm it on the published build. Sorry for the noise.

Released as v1.6.6-1.21.1 — https://github.com/Shadscure/RoadArchitect/releases/tag/v1.6.6-1.21.1 (Modrinth + CurseForge). The crash class you hit is fixed in this build. Please give it a try and let me know if anything still reproduces, then I will close this issue.
