Despite having searched for ages, I could not find a single tree generating in the world. And because the wandering trader doesn't offer the saplings as trades, I had to resort to cheating in saplings to get them.
I suspect it may be a compatibility issue with another mod I have installed, Dynamic Trees. Grounded and Verdant both work fine, and other tree gen mods do as well.
