Optimal way to setup browser download intercept

I am running CachyOS+hyprland, installed Surge using paru -S surge, installed the browser extension(zen browser), added the temporary add-on using that manifest.json file(do i have to do this if i already have the extension?), also found the auth token (assuming this is correct) in ~/.local/state/surge/token, added it to the extension and finally it intercepts downloads (although first zen prompts where to save the file and then if Surge is running in the terminal then it downloads the file. Can I not have it auto-activate Surge and ask me where to save it and all?). Also, if the server is running, can I not look at the dashboard? I'm asking this because I tried adding exec-once=surge start server to my Hyprland config so it auto-starts, but then I can't look at the dashboard because it says the server/surge is already running.

Is this the optimal way to do this? Will I have to add the temporary add-on and auth token every time I restart the browser/laptop? I want to use Surge as my default download manager. Please help me figure this out.

(Also, for an .mp4 file, I got error 403; I'm not sure if that's because of my weird setup or an error in Surge.)

Hey @POSiTiiiV

So you can use surge connect to connect to an active server via TUI. So you can see the dashboard and control the downloads.
Regarding the 'Save As' dialog from Zen, there's nothing we can do that can intercept that dialog and get the path from there. In your browser settings, you can turn off 'Ask every time when to download' or something along that line to not have the dialog box appear. We already have an issue open #175 for feature request for extension to ask where to save downloads everytime

Hey, thanks for the quick response, really appreciate it! I wanted to know whether I need both the browser extension and the temporary add-on for the download intercept to work. Also, do I have to add the auth token in the extension every time I restart my laptop?

No, the temporary add-on isn't needed. You just need the extension OR the temp add-on.

Regarding the auth token, the token should be saved in the browser if you are using the extension?
