Hello All,
Course materials for "Cytometry in R - Week #3 - Inside an FCS File" are now available via the course website and GitHub repository. If you recently added your name to the email list, see here for previous course emails.
Having subjected everyone to two R-focused weeks, this week will have more of a cytometry-focus as we slice into an .fcs file. We will hopefully gather greater understanding of how an .fcs file is structured and what additional kinds of information we can retrieve (while becoming increasingly puzzled why different manufacturers insist on using different keyword names for the exact same things). The goal of this week is not to memorize how to quickly access 100 archaic keywords, but rather showcase a typical object exploration workflow, and continue to grow familiarity with how to use R. We will also gain additional exposure to more object types in R (vectors, list, matrices and data.frames).
Remember, you only need to attend 1 session per week (all other days repeat the same material).
For those attending in-person (ie, Baltimore locals), please note, this week we will only meet on Thursday at 4 PM EST due to low attendance. We will be meeting in Bressler Research Building 7-035 (around the corner from the Flow Core).
For those joining remotely, there will be three online live-streams offered via our YouTube channel , on Tuesday 2200 EST (Wednesday 0300 GMT+0), Wednesday 1600 EST (Wednesday 2100 GMT+0) and Thursday 1000 EST (Thursday 1500 GMT+0). Recordings will be available immediately after.
If you haven't started the pre-course walk-throughs, there is still time. The material we will cover this week will continue starting from where GitHub account and Workstation Setup left off (software installation).
If you have completed the pre-course walkthroughs, navigate to your CytometryInR repository, and sync the fork to retrieve the new material from the parent repository. Once this is done, pull the changes into your local CytometryInR folder. See here for additional setup instructions for this week.
The Discussions page is now open if you have questions, or would like to discuss the topics in greater depth with other participants.
We are looking forward to seeing you at some point this week (whether in-person or online)
Best Wishes-
David
