Complex / Simple Type Check

Is there a way to check if (id) is a var ( int, double etc) or ComplexType ?
do you suggest?
isKindOfClass : [NSObject class]
And then just explicitly check for NSDate and NSString?

You can have a class that is not kind of NSObject, like NSProxy.
You can have a class that is not even conforming to protocol NSObject, and as such not responding to isKindOfClass:.
