unable to upgrade nix as user because of multiuser daemon mode

in the install script nix is installed in the multi user daemon mode, so user is unable to make changes to nix - for eg upgrade it. should it be donwloaded in single user mode? make a decsion and if single user mode is needed change it. or provide an arg to install in single user mode.
