### Theme:
Demographics – Core Population Characteristics
---
### Data Location:
You can find the variables described in this document in the CSV files here.
CSV files are organized by year and spatial scale. For example, county-level variables from 2020 will be found in `C_2020.csv`.
**Note:** Every variable can be found in the **Latest** files.
---
### Data Source(s) Description:
Variables were derived from the *American Community Survey (ACS)* 5-Year Estimates for the years 2020 and 2023. Source tables include DP05 (Demographic and Housing Estimates) and related summary files, available for Tract, County, and ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) levels.
The ACS is an annual survey by the U.S. Census Bureau that collects detailed demographic, social, economic, and housing information.
---
### Description of Data Source Tables:
**Table DP05:** Demographic and Housing Estimates
This table includes population counts and percentage breakdowns by sex, age, and race, as well as household characteristics such as average household size.
---
### Description of Data Processing:
- Percentage values represent proportions of the total population or household population and are rounded to two decimal places.
- Average household size is expressed in number of persons.
- Median age is measured in years.
- All race variables follow ACS definitions, including "Two or More Races," which includes individuals selecting multiple race options on the ACS survey.
---
