Anthropic API Keys not working

Repro:

1. Set API key
2. Open new thread
3. Note the "Not logged in - Please run /login"
4. When trying to login, it is impossible to the key provided. Only Oauth avaliable.

terminal claude works fine in zed with api key. So that is my workaround atm.

I am setting the api key in zed, in the settings menu for agents. I also have the api key set in my env system wide.

Anthropic key that is.

I'm getting the same behavior.

I've set the environment variable ANTHROPIC_API_KEY (set in ~/.zshrc) to a valid key (Checked within zed agent, set key in zed's agent settings on anthropic api key value - which works). Also able to have claude cli work properly using the environment variable.

Unable to get the Claude ACP to seemingly leverage the same environment variable key - or there is some other validation issue and the error isn't descriptive enough

  "errorKind": "authentication_failed"
}

I've also tried using the /login method and selecting "Anthropic Console" option. After logging in, I'm not prompted for which API key to leverage, and if I try to run a prompt I get this error:

Solved my issue.

I had an older key set within Claude's local settings ~/.claude/settings.json. After removing that value, the ~/.zshrc ANTHROPIC_API_KEY is properly being picked up and used within the agent after using the /login and Anthropic Console option 👍

Hmm maybe I have an old key aswell, I shouldnt tho as I come from a fresh install.

Would you mind sharing your settings.json file? Without the api key ofc.
