Problems with charset/encoding

What steps will reproduce the problem?
 1. Create a file with tildes or "strange" character on it (ñ, á, ó, etc)
 2. Send it through giver 
 3. Accept it on the other side

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
 I would expect the filename not to be changed.
 I get the file with characters changed:
  * ñ => ñ
  * ó => ó
  * etc...

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
 Giver 0.1.8 on Debian
