Misfire test wrong cylinder number (Kia)

Hi All..
I was getting real time misfire counts with pyobd on a Kia G4ED engine (4 cyl), and eventually realized the cylinder number being reported for the misfire was incorrect.. e.g. 4 is actually 2 etc.
Anyone else seen this?

I didn't have the chance to test it on a car that reports live misfires.

I figured out it was wrong by pulling coil connectors while engine was running and seeing which misfire count increased.. I'll do it again soon and report back which actual cylinder number maps to which reported cylinder number. But would be good if it could be checked on a few different vehicles I suppose. Might be a Kia/Hyundai oddity.

Re further testing on the Kia:
cylinder 1 misfire reported as 1
cylinder 2 misfire reported as 4
cylinder 3 misfire reported as 2
cylinder 4 misfire reported as 3

The firing order of the engine is 1-3-4-2 .. it seems that the reported cylinder number is actually the point in the firing order when the misfire happens. i.e:

Cylinder 1 reported as "1" (the first cylinder in firing order)
Cylinder 3 reported as "2" (the second cylinder in firing order)
Cylinder 4 reported as "3" (the third cylinder in firing order)
Cylinder 2 reported as "4" (the fourth cylinder in firing order)

This is just my misunderstanding. According to https://www.underhoodservice.com/deciphering-engine-misfire-codes/

"The OBDII system will identify the cylinder(s) that are not contributing their normal dose of power and set a code corresponding to the firing order.
A P0303 code, for example, would tell you that the No. 3 cylinder is misfiring. To figure out which cylinder is No. 3, refer to a diagram of the engine’s firing order"

Maybe the message could make this clearer, or add option to input firing order and decode to actual cylinder.
