A similar proposal for reducing time locks was made previously. Now a new MuSig protocol is being created it would be good to reconsider time locks.
My thoughts are:
Altcoins
Reduce to 5 days.
Time locks should be reduced from 10 days to 5 days. Altcoins payments can be quickly verified. 5 days provides a good opportunity for the trade to be completed via mediation. Trades not completed in 5 days are almost certainly going to end in arbitration anyway. Reducing the time lock by half will make the process more convenient for responsive traders.
Fiat
Remain at 20 days.
Fiat trades can take time to mediate. Especially in cases where either the sender's or receiver's banks decides to not credit the funds while they 'investigate' the payment. 20 days seems to be a good number. 99% of trades with responsive buyers and sellers can be mediated successfully in this time. Whist reducing the time would be good for traders with non-responsive peers, it would adversely the trades where both buyer and seller are responsive.
