I had the same issue.
try choose fill image, then click circle button of up of the "Opacity 100%" to solve it

@baryon Thanks I have ended up with the same trick for images and for texts I had to go and change it one by one in symbols.

Another thing I have noticed that iPad Pro dimensions for screenshots isn't correct also.

Using version 41.2.
Two problems:

1. Statements are not propagated to exported images. Do not have the refresh arrows to force replacement, as with master screenshots. So, I've entered my intended text in each layer as directed, but in export image, text remains "This is the first thing you'll say...". This is true for all screenshots and sizes

2. do not have the ability to choose between white and black iPhones. In instructions, we see a folder which can be expanded for each device in left panel. But there is no such folder icon in my version. Just the two circling arrows.

Text is still not propogated, and color selection does not exist.

A manual fix for 42 version of Sketch.

1. On step 5 select all 4 points (statement, screenshot, device name, background) into a group

2. make it exportable (lower right corner, "+" button)
3. insert manually your text with appropriate size/font into each picture text field for statements
4. choose manually from screenshot dropdown menu on the right

5. select a group and press "Export"

This workaround works, but sheesh, make a big note on the readme telling people this does not work, wasted a lot of time before finding this.
