Polish letters are displayed as X.
Files downloaded from the repository are stored in UTF-8
How can I fix this?

The fonts Firewatch ships with only supports the Latin-1 and Russian Basic character sets currently. If you can provide me a list of the characters that are missing from these sets which are needed to support the Polish localization, we can look into including them... but no promises, as these are unofficial localizations.
