Request: way to open project that isn't in `C:\ProgramData\SIL\...`

I use a virtual machine to run Flex and I keep the database in a folder shared with my main system (so I can have it on Dropbox without needing to give Windows access to the internet, which allows me to run it without an antivirus, which allows me to run it fast enough in a virtualized container). Flex can open a project in any folder, I just need to click on the .fwdata file to open it. But FlexTools doen't allow me to do the same. If you can find some time, would you mind changing the program to allow the user to open a database in any random location?

If someone is in the same situation, I found a workaround: create a symbolic link from the shared VirtualBox folder where you keep your database into the folder where Flex expects to find databases. In my case, I did that by running cmd as an administrator, then issuing the command mklink /J C:\ProgramData\SIL\Fieldworks E:\Kisedje. More info about symbolic links here

Good idea! I'm glad you found a workaround.
Another option is to manually edit the flextools.ini file to put the full path (without .fwdata) in the 'currentdatabase' field.
