Not all regression files in develop branch work in bootstrapping #328

From conversation today, when switching on bootstrapAll there are a few instances where bootstrapping fails for one of two reasons:

Problem 1: column and row names don't line up

In some cases there are mismatched column/row labels. These appear to be in three files:

  • reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx
  • reg_retirement.xlsx
  • reg_socialcare.xlsx
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Male_1 does not match column Liwwh_Female_10 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:SingleDep
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Male_2 does not match column Liwwh_Female_20 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:SingleDep
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Male_3 does not match column Liwwh_Female_30 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:SingleDep
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Male_4 does not match column Liwwh_Female_40 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:SingleDep
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Male_5 does not match column Liwwh_Female_50 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:SingleDep
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Male_6 does not match column Liwwh_Female_60 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:SingleDep
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Male_01 does not match column Liwwh_Male_1 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:Couples
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Female_01 does not match column Liwwh_Female_1 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:Couples
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Male_02 does not match column Liwwh_Male_2 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:Couples
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Female_02 does not match column Liwwh_Female_2 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:Couples
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Male_03 does not match column Liwwh_Male_3 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:Couples
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Female_03 does not match column Liwwh_Female_3 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:Couples
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Male_04 does not match column Liwwh_Male_4 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:Couples
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Female_04 does not match column Liwwh_Female_4 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:Couples
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Male_05 does not match column Liwwh_Male_5 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:Couples
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Female_05 does not match column Liwwh_Female_5 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:Couples
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Male_06 does not match column Liwwh_Male_6 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:Couples
REGRESSOR Liwwh_Female_06 does not match column Liwwh_Female_6 in reg_labourSupplyUtility.xlsx:Couples
REGRESSOR Reached_Retirement_Age_Lesnr_c2_NotEmployed_L1 does not match column Reached_Retirement_Age_Les_c3_NotEmployed_L1 in reg_retirement.xlsx:UK_R1b
REGRESSOR Age85plus does not match column Age85+ in reg_socialcare.xlsx:UK_S3b
REGRESSOR Age85plus does not match column Age85+ in reg_socialcare.xlsx:UK_S3c

These would be checked for consistency in do files estimating regressions I presume?

Problem #2: matrix singularity

Several sheets have singular matrices:

  • reg_education.xlsx: UK_E2a
  • reg_income.xlsx: UK_I3a, UK_I3b, UK_I4b, UK_I5a, UK_I3a_selection, UK_I3b_selection and UK_I5a_selection

I've not been able to detect these outside of Java though, so might need further testing. These are what Java is reporting in runs.

Actions

  • Ensure clean regression files with consistent row and column names
  • Fix singular regression matrices
