Doesn't work with python3

I just tried to use this with a new Mac running Sonoma.
new_macports is designed for some version of Python older than Python3, but only Python3 is available.
new_macports has syntax errors with Python3

Thanks for the notice. Can you fix the script to run with Python3 and submit the changes? Usually Python 2->3 upgrades are pretty easy. I haven't used MacPorts in a while.
