Q: How to use an external probe in Kubernetes

Hey,
thank you for the nice project.
Unfortunately I'm currently not sure how is the correct way to use an external-probe like the one for redis when deploying cloudprober with Helm.
The only idea which come to my mind is building a custom image which extends cloudprober by e.g. the redis binary.

Yes, unfortunately, helm-charts don't support a way to run external probers, other than just creating a custom image as you mentioned.

What I've done in the past (outside of helm):

• Package external prober into a container image.
• Run cloudprober container as initContainer and copy cloudprober binary to a shared volume.
• Run external prober container as the main container and invoke cloudprober binary from the shared volume.

I'll try to add this support to helm charts but might take some time.

Hey, thank you for the quick response.
Another idea would be using image-volumes at some point.
I think I will stick with the custom image for now.
Feel free to close the issue or leave it open for e.g. adding docs.
