Bad Column Generation

When using the ANSI 104 layout from the KLE templates the column generation doesnt seem logical.

I need to come up with more choices for algorithms here. Assigning columns left to right resulted in ludicrous column selection for 60% boards. What you're seeing here is a result of assigning columns "outside in" rather than left to right, which seemed to result in mostly logical assignments. You'll have to change that manually in the meantime.

I'm open to ideas for good algorithms for assigning columns.
